information reaching here from Amman indicates that the recognition by the Algiers summit meeting of Arab rulers of Yassir Arafat as the sole spokesman for the Palestinians has caused King Hussein to re-evaluate his position. He held a meeting with his close advisors after which one of them stated that it might have been an error to send a brigade of Jordanian troops to fight in Syria during the Yom Kippur War.

Now, the spokesman said, we find ourselves in the position of having a man whose avowed aim is to depose the King of Jordan. He hinted that Palestinian Arabs on the West Bank may organize a petition to disavow Arafat as their spokesman. It appears from his remarks that Hussein’s emissaries are busy among the Arabs of the West Bank, especially the “notables”– the professional people are mostly with Arafat–discussing the future of the area in the context of the Geneva conference.
