A year-long program to “Free 50 Families” seeking to leave the Soviet Union for a new life in Israel has been undertaken by the 36 Conservative congregations in this area with more than 15,000 families affiliated with the United Synagogue of America. The program calls for each synagogue to “adopt” one or two Soviet families plus a political prisoner.
