B’nai B’rith District 7 called on the Democratic and Republican Parties of Texas Monday to revise the schedule of their respective conventions, which this year are set by law to begin on Sept. 17, the first day of Rosh Hashanah, A resolution adopted at the District’s 99th annual convention here noted that the conflict would disenfranchise observant Jews elected as delegates to the political sessions. The resolution proposed that following a legal opening of their conventions both parties “immediately recess to a day which will not interfere with any delegate’s religious beliefs or practices. Estimates by the B’nai B’rith are that more than 200 Texan Jews have been elected delegates.
