Neo-nazis Lose in Elections

The neo-Nazi National Democrats in West Germany were proportionately the heaviest losers in the weekend’s elections in Hesse and Bavaria. In Hesse they lost two-thirds of their voters, with 1 percent of the vote compared to 3.1 percent in 1970. In Bavaria, the situation was similar where they received 1.1 percent against 2.9 percent in 1970. The results document once again the decline in extreme rightist politics in West Germany, and the failure of NPD leaders to develop policies and ideas attractive enough to stop the party’s dwindling membership.
