Every American Jewish community across the United States is now actively involved in the United Jewish Appeal emergency drive for cash in the 1975 campaign, following the opening phase of a total mobilization of American Jewry to meet urgent human needs in Israel, Frank R. Lautenberg, UJA general chairman announced today.
The present gearing-up of American Jewish communal activity comes after a special UJA cross-country series of regional meetings last week during which Israeli Foreign Minister Yigal Allon and Moshe Rivlin, director general of the Jewish Agency travelled with a group of UJA national officers on a five-city non-stop flight. More than 2000 U.S. Jewish leaders from around the country assembled–in Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York-to participate in this opening phase of the UJA Total Mobilization to collect $100 million in cash by the end of May, to complete the regular 1975 campaign, and to resolicit major gifts.
Among the many UJA leaders taking part in the entire cross-country visit were Paul Zuckerman, UJA president, of Detroit; Mrs, Sylvia Hassenfeld, UJA National Women’s Division chairman, of Providence; and Donald S, Gould, UJA Young Leadership Cabinet chairman of Albany.
Citing the current follow-up in Jewish communities throughout the country as “highly encouraging,” Lautenberg explained that meetings are being held in every community “to bring the message across on a local level, and to plan–and implement–specific measures so that we can meet our three-part goal.”
