Premier Yitzhak Rabin announced Wednesday night that he had asked the Mapam leadership to meet with him for a “coordination session” before his trip to Washington next month to meet with President Ford. This action followed warnings by the veteran Mapam leadership that they would not tolerate endlessly the Labor majority’s failure to consult with Mapam on basic foreign policy issues and the government leadership’s foreign policy inaction. In view of recent defections from the Labor Party, such as Arye Eliav, Mapam’s warnings appeared to have deep and immediate significance in-Rabin’s view.
