The American Jewish Congress today hailed the passage last week of a bill by the New York State Legislature — the first in the nation — prohibiting “boycott or blacklist” directed against individuals or corporations residing or doing business in the State.

In a statement calling on Governor Hugh Carey to sign the bill into law, Jack M. Elkin, chairman of the New York Metropolitan Council of the AJCongress, said the measure would give the State Division of Human Rights “strong enforcement powers to prevent Arab governments from imposing their prejudices on commercial and financial practices in this state.”
