U.S. Ambassador Malcolm Toon pledged here today that the United States will make every possible effort to kill the “poisonous resolution” against Zionism when it comes up in the United Nations General Assembly. He described the measure as “an attempt to give an official seal to anti-Semitism which, as a matter of fact, is the oldest form of racism in history.” Toon spoke at a luncheon of the Israel-America Society which served as an official welcome to Ambassador and Mrs. Toon.

The envoy declared that the U.S. is committed to defend Israel. He warned that the Arab-inspired resolution equating Zionism with racism would, if adopted by the Assembly plenary, undermine the UN itself. Toon noted that the U.S. Congress was in the process of making its powerful voice heard in condemnation of the resolution.
