Foreign Minister Yigal Allon warned that if the General Assembly endorses the resolution of its Third Committee equating Zionism with racism, certain countries could use the resolution as a pretext to alter their own laws to the detriment of their Jewish communities. Jews are already discriminated against in some countries, Allon told a meeting of the World Zionist Organization Executive here.

“The danger exists that resolutions which describe Zionism as a synonym for racism and colonialism will gradually penetrate the minds of large circles, especially among the younger generation,” Allon said. He described the present campaign against the Third Committee’s draft resolution as a campaign to shape the world’s future attitude toward the Jewish people. He said he hoped the Foreign Ministry and the Zionist movement would cooperate in the mobilization of the Jewish people overseas.

“The cooperation with the Zionist movement is essential not only in hours of emergency. There should not be one aspect in the affairs of the Jewish people that we should not participate in,” Allon said. He said that “Not enough was done to strengthen the Zionist idea and we should all close ranks for this cause.”
