The House of Representatives, with near unanimity, today condemned the United Nations Third Committee draft resolution equating Zionism with racism and urged its rejection by the General Assembly. A House resolution stating that position was signed by 429 members from the 50 states, including all 16 members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and by the representatives of the four American terri- tories and districts–Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. Only five members of the House did not sign the resolution. They were House Speaker Carl Albert (D. Okla.), who does not sign resolutions because of his office and one Congressman each from districts in Texas, California, Georgia and Ohio.
An identical resolution, introduced by Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey (D. Minn.) with the close support of Sen. William Brook (D. Tenn.), was adopted by voice vote in the Senate yesterday without dissent. The resolution was signed earlier by 56 Senators.
