The Greek freighter Olympus is on its way to Eilat after becoming the first ship to carry Israeli cargo through the Suez Canal since 1989. The ship carrying 8500 tons of cement from Rumania passed through the canal today after a delay caused by the need to transfer $16,000 for the deposit required by the canal authority. The passage of Israeli non-strategic goods through the canal was part of the recent Israeli-Egyptian agreement. The vessel is expected to receive a ceremonial welcome in Eilat where it will stay a few days before loading up with phosphates for Europe.
