The Druze, the non-Arab Moslem sect loyal to Israel, have established a Zionist group of their own and will cooperate with the Zionist Council of Israel, if was announced by Council chairman Arye Zimouki. The Council is an affiliate of the World Zionist Organization which conducts programs in Zionism at schools and universities in Israel.

Zimouki said that following a meeting he had with Yosef Nasser A-Din, secretary of the Druze group, it was agreed that Druze leaders would address Israeli youths, adults, children and immigrants to explain the Druze struggle for equal rights and to state their desire to live peacefully with the Jewish community.

Zimouki reported that A-Din explained that his group accepts Israel’s Law of Return and recognizes the rights of the Jewish people in Israel. The group views the strengthening of Israel economically, socially and militarily as beneficial to the Druze and Jewish communities alike. Zimouki said there was room in the Zionist Council for cooperation with the Druze Zionists and promised them the Council’s full support and assistance.
