Arab delegates are canvassing Security Council members for support of a resolution condemning Israel’s occupation practices on the West Bank, it was learned today. The draft, said to be still in the form of a working paper, reportedly contains a request for the Security Council to send a special envoy to the West Bank to investigate Israel’s handling of the current disturbances there. Sources here indicated that the United States is likely to veto such a resolution if it is presented to the Council.

Meanwhile, it was not known when the Security Council will resume debate on the West Bank situation. It convened more than two weeks ago at the urgent request of Egypt but discussion was suspended after a few days because the Arab delegations were unable to agree on a draft resolution: It was reported yesterday that agreement was finally reached by the Arabs on an Egyptian-initiated draft.
