Father Edward H. Flannery, outgoing executive director of the Catholic Bishops’ Office of Catholic-Jewish Relations, has received a Papal honor for his services to the cause of improved understanding between Catholics and Jews. Father Flannery was presented the Benemerenti Medal by Archbishop Joseph L. Bernardin of Cincinnati, president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, during a recent meeting of the NCCB Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs in Dayton. O.
Father Flannery will leave the NCCB staff in Washington Oct. 1, to return to his home diocese of Providence, R.I. He has directed the Office of Catholic-Jewish Relations, part of the NCCB Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs. since its establishment at Seton Hall University in New Jersey in 1967. The office was moved to Washington in 1972.
