Andrei Sakharov, the Soviet Nobel Laureate and a prominent dissident and critic of the Soviet regime, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Hebrew University at its annual convocation next month. When informed of the award by telephone call to Moscow Wednesday, Sakharov said “Naturally, I accept this honor with gratitude. I think this honor is intended not only for me but for all those who stand with me….” At that point the telephone connection was broken and attempts to make a new connection talked. Among others who will be awarded honorary doctorates by the Hebrew University are Daniel P. Moynihan, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Axel Springer, the West German publisher.
