The last-minute cancellation of the American pavilion at the International Fair on Modern Living which opens tomorrow at the Tel Aviv fair grounds has raised some eyebrows here. It will be the first time the United States has not participated in an international exposition in Israel. Notice of the cancellation was received only last week and the reasons given were technical. But Elisha Almagor, director general of the fair grounds, said this explanation did not seem reasonable.
It was learned, meanwhile, that the U.S. had intended to have a pavilion centered around the bicentennial celebrations. But there is a similar exhibition at the U.S. Cultural Center here and since the material for the pavilion did not arrive when expected, it was decided to cancel the fair grounds exhibition. There will be over 1000 exhibitors representing 23 countries, including Great Britain and West Germany. The fair will feature consumer goods designed for modern living.
