The State Department today denied that it had received a protest from Israel over President Ford’s expression of thanks to the Palestine Liberation Organization for helping in the evacuation of Americans from Lebanon. Department spokesman Frederick Brown, when asked about a report from Jerusalem that Israel had lodged a protest, said that “there has been no such protest.” The State Department had said earlier that the thanks delivered to the PLO through a third party was the only contact that the U.S. ever had with the PLO.
