The Executive of the Latin American Jewish Congress declared at a meeting yesterday that the current outbreak of bombing attacks on Jewish institutions, proliferation of Nazi material and circulation of letters threatening Argentine Jewry are attempts “to divert public opinion from rational solutions of real political, social and economic problems” now besetting violence-wracked Argentina.
Noting that the session was being held on the 37th anniversary of the start of World War II by Nazi Germany, the delegates declared that the “atrocious mass murders” of the Nazi period started with propaganda “which prepared the way for a system of terror.”
A statement by the delegates condemned “the proliferation of Nazi expressions which offends the tradition and way of life of Latin American peoples” and urged them not to forget nor to allow themselves to be “dragged by the forces of destruction” and to defend “the dignity and culture of the human family.” The session was attended by representatives from Argentina, Brazil Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela.
