The Jewish National Fund recently dedicated a grove named in honor of the Argentine heroine, Mariqueita Sanchez de Thompson. It is in the International Women’s Forest in Galilee. De Thompson ran a literary and political salon at her home at the beginning of the 19th Century, and it was there that preparations were made to help aid the indepence revolution of Argentina. The grove was planted at the request of the Women’s Zionist Organization in Argentina.

The ceremony was attended by Argentina’s Ambassador to Israel Enrique Jorge Ros; the director general of the JNF. Shimon Ben Shemesh; a delegation of the Women’s Zionist Organization of Argentina, headed by Mrs. Catalina Epstein; and a group of olim from Argentina.
