With the exception of Premier Menachem Begin and Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan, Cabinet ministers will no longer be entitled to service flats in the capital, Finance Minister Simcha Ehrlich told a Knesset committee yesterday. Ehrlich said the flats that served Cabinet ministers until now would be sold or turned into government offices.
According to Ehrlich, at least 10 service flats have been empty since the new government took office or were used by their high-ranking tenants only once a week. Ehrlich suggested, therefore, that ministers in need of housing should use hotel rooms rather than an entire flat which is not fully utilized. The exceptions for Begin and Dayan were made because they must host overseas guests as part of their duties, Ehrlich explained.
