Some 40,000 Christian pilgrims are expected to visit Israel during the Xmas-New Year season to take part in church services, according to an assessment by the tourism ministry. The pilgrims will be coming in 708 organized groups by air and in 10 cruise ships. Most of them will be from the U.S., Britain and Scandinavia. Israel TV is making arrangements to telecast the Bethlehem midnight mass live by satellite to television stations around Europe.
