Herzog Calls Egypt Intransigent

Chaim Herzog, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, said that Israel would not take risks with its security. As he received the Distinguished Statesman Award from the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith at its 65th anniversary dinner Tuesday night, Herzog stated that “negotiations presuppose concessions” and that Egypt had not agreed to concede one bit of territory. “Instead of being expected to enter negotiations, “he stated, “we’ve been presented with an ultimatum–take it or leave it.”

Also honored at the dinner were three past national chairman of the ADL: Henry E. Schultz, Dare Schary, and Seymour Graubard. Each received inscribed marble timepieces representing their collective 22 years of service to the ADL. Sigmund Livingston, founder of the ADL, Meier Steinbrink, and Samuel Dalsimer were all paid posthumous tribute as past national chairmen.
