The Knesset demanded yesterday that the Soviet Union release all “Prisoners of Conscience” and allow them to emigrate to Israel and that it cease the harassment of Jews who wish to maintain “a full Jewish life.” Knesset Speaker Yitzhak Shamir said the Knesset would call on parliaments throughout the free world to bring their influence to bear on the USSR to release the prisoners and adhere to basic human rights, according to the Helsinki agreements.

It was also announced that the Foreign Ministry will ask the International Red Cross to investigate the health of the Jewish POCs and the Israeli Minister of Justice will study the files of each individual prisoner for possible violations of international law or of the Soviet constitution.
