Mayor Edward Koch today proclaimed Dec. 10 as “Syrian Jewry Day” in New York City in support of efforts of The Committee for the Rescue of Syrian Jewry in Brooklyn “to compel the Syrian government to allow the Jewish minority in Syria freedom of movement within the country and the right to emigrate.” City Hall officials said Koch had served since 1971 as honorary co-chairman, with the late Sen. Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota, of the committee. Herbert Brickman, special assistant to Koch, presented the proclamation to Abraham Dwek, president of the Committee, during a brief ceremony this morning at City Hall.
