Israel and Egypt will exchange documents ratifying their peace treaty at colorful ceremonies now scheduled to take place on April 16 at Umm Khashiba, an American-manned early warning station in Sinai. The date was agreed to at a meeting between Israeli and Egyptian delegates today. Previously, there was talk that the ceremonies would be held early next week. The rank of the Israeli and Egyptian officials who will execute the formality that puts the treaty into effect is not yet known. Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan has indicated, however, that he will not represent Israel.
Plans call for a guard of honor comprising Israeli, Egyptian and American contingents and two army bands. The Egyptian band will play Hatikvo, Israel’s national anthem, and the Israeli band will render the Egyptian anthem, Biladi (My Country). Afterwards, both bands will play the Star Spangled Banner. There will be 150 persons present from each side, half of them media representatives.
