Six persons reportedly members of Rabbi Meir Kahane’s “Kach” party, were arrested today in connection with a series of violent break-ins eight days ago into Arab homes in Hebron. Israel television reported tonight that police were looking for a seventh suspect, “a central figure in Kach” who apparently fled the Jewish quarter of Kiryat Arba, near Hebron, where he lives. The suspects will be charged, following Identification of one of them by the Arab victims, the TV report said.
Other reports from Hebron said some of the suspects resisted the police who came to apprehend them today. The police investigation followed the Cabinet’s strong condemnation of the break-ins at its meeting last Sunday. Premier Menachem Begin termed the action “vandalism” and demanded that the miscreants be brought to justice. A special police team was formed to interview the Arab families-some of whom were beaten by the assailants-and establish the identities of the attackers.
According to the television report, three of the six arrested are recent immigrants from the United States; a fourth a soldier in the regular army and a fifth a 15-year-old youth who was released on bail.
