The State of Israel has awarded the contract for its new Embassy in Washington to the Blake Construction Co. and work has already started on the new structure at the corner of Reno Road and Van Ness Street in the upper northwest section of Washington. The new building; which will embody suggestions of both Mediterranean and Middle Eastern architectural design, is scheduled for completion in 1980, Stanley Prill, president of the Blake firm, stated.

At present the Israel Embassy is located in an old Washington mansion acquired soon after the State of Israel came into being in 1948, and in several outlying offices. This has created problems of increased expense, lack of security and inefficiency which the new Embassy building is expected to solve.
