The Military Government may cancel the municipal elections scheduled next year in the West Bank for fear of a Palestine Liberation Organization sweep. Most of the offices of the mayors who won in the previous elections in April 1976 are presently staffed by PLO supporters. The fear is that a PLO sweep could cut even further the chances that local Arab leaders would participate in the autonomy talks.
