El Al is ready to begin negotiations this week with its Egyptian counterpart, Egyptian, to finalize a schedule and other necessary arrangements for inaugurating air traffic between the two countries as was agreed upon between Premier Menachem Begin and President Anwar Sadat of their summit meeting in Aswan last week. Rafi Har-Lev, El Al’s acting director general, said that from a technical point of view El Al is ready to begin flights on January 26, the day set for the start of air traffic. However, preliminary talks must first be held between the Israeli and Egyptian transport ministries and civil aviation authorities to establish an agreement for landing rights, air corridors and frequency of flights, and to resolve the problems of customs regulations, fees and fueling. El Al said it would propose full cooperation with Egyptian on publicity, marketing and ticketing with a view to promoting combined tours of Israel and Egypt from European and American cities.
