Mayor Jacques Chirac last week unveiled a plaque to the memory of the 12,000 Jewish children deported from Paris by the Nazis during the occupation of France. He said the children’s sacrifice “will not have been in vain. The world remembers what happened and will not allow such things to happen again.”
