Costa Rica’s envoy to the United Nations in the late 1940s, Ricardo Fournier, played a key role in helping the Zionist movement win a majority for sovereignty. Last week, his memory was honored by the Jewish National Fund in a ceremony at the Peace Forest near Jerusalem, attended by Costa Rican Ambassador Ronald Fernandez-Pinto and senior Foreign Ministry and JNF officials. Fournier’s daughter spoke of her father’s love of the Zionist cause, and planted a tree in his memory.
