–Judge Wladimir Rabinovitch, better known under his pen name of “Rabi”, died Monday in a car accident. He was 74 years old. Born in Russia, Rabinovitch came to France as a child and became a judge in 1944. He was a prolific writer and journalist, an ardent Zionist and an energetic defender of Israel.

In 1979 he caused a small scandal when he published a book, “One Nation Too Many, “in which he called for the creation of a Palestinian state and for Israel’s withdrawal to its 1967 borders. Rabinovitch was a member of the French Magistrates Union and often served as spokesman for the French judiciary in matters relating to human rights which he ardently defended.
