— Charlotte Jacobson, chairman of the World Zionist Organization-American Section, and Rabbi Joseph Sternstein, president of the American Zionist Federation, who are the co-chairmen of the May 24 “American Assembly for Zionism and Israel” to be held in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, hailed the “heartwarmingly wholehearted and unanimous response to and support of organized American Jewry for this unique landmark and memorable event in American Jewish history.”

In a joint statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the two Zionist leaders declared, “This is a one-time happening. The Assembly has been called together for several crucial purposes:

“To reaffirm the commitment of this nation and the solidarity of the American Jewish community to Zionism’s historic ideals of cultural revitalization, spiritual renewal and the political and economic self-determination of the Jewish people; to stand solidly in united refutation of all who would tarnish and slander in debased international forums the life-affirming values and the accomplishments of Zionism and Israel, and the safeguarding of the fundamental rights of Jews everywhere in the world.

“To declare our oneness with the national liberation movement for the redemption of the Jewish people and its eternal homeland–Eretz Israel; for the achievement of peace between Israel and her Arab neighbors; to strengthen the social and economic fabric of Israeli society; to attain a Jewish cultural and religious renaissance in Israel which will enrich the spiritual stature of all nations.”

This “Declaration of Faith on Zionism and Israel” will be adopted at the Assembly, the JTA was told. The Assembly will start promptly at 7:30pm and members of Zionist organizations can obtain reserved seats from their notional organizations, according to the announcement of the Assembly. Earlier in the day, from 11 am to 5 pm, there will be conferences devoted to “American Jewish Youth” and “American Academic Leaders” at the Hilton Hotel, the announcement added.
