Fourteen young families from the U.S. and Canada have arrived in the northern towns of Safed and Carmiel to take part in a volunteering program arranged by the World Zionist Organization’s Dor Hemshech section. They are to work half a day in Jewish National Fund forestry projects, in nearby hospitals and in municipal clinics, and devote the other half of their days to studying Hebrew and learning about Israel. The long-range goal is that these families should make aliya and settle permanently in the Galilee. Each family is “adopted” by an Israeli family with similar interests. The program is now in its third year.
