The Jewish National Fund will this winter launch a large-scale afforestation operation on the eastern slopes of Jerusalem. The project, one of the largest afforestation tasks undertaken by the JNF in recent years, will spread over 2,500 acres on a mountainous terrain. It is scheduled to be completed in seven years. The new forest will extend along the eastern suburb of the capital, linking the existing Jerusalem forest on the western side of the city with a greenbelt encircling Jerusalem. Others involved in the project are the Israel Land Administration and the municipality of Jerusalem.
