The government and Golan Heights settlers are following up passage of the Golan Heights law extending Israeli law to the former Syrian area by drawing up plans to bring another 20,000 Jewish residents to the region, it was announced at a press conference yesterday by Shimon Shaves, chairman of the Golan settlers committee.

The newcomers are to be added to existing villages during the next four years, as well as in half a dozen new villages and urban centers to be established there. The Defense Ministry is planning to set up new defense industries on the Golan, while the Tourism Ministry is to develop tourism centers, with the Housing Ministry building new apartments to house the newcomers.
