Bir Zeit University, a center and focus of Arab nationalist sentiment on the West Bank, was again in uproar Monday when an official of the education department of the Israeli civilian authority for the region was beaten up by students. The official, Zion Gabai, was given medical treatment after escaping by firing his pistol into the air. There has been a mood of hostility on the campus ever since the university was closed last November because of riots.
