Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani, the Saudi Arabian Oil Minister, urged West Germany to use its influence with the United States to apply pressure on Israel for concessions in the Middle East conflict. Addressing the German Foreign Policy Association, Yamani portrayed Israel as the principal power in the region. He said the establishment of the State of Israel was an outcome of Nazi persecution and the Arabs are “still suffering” as a result.
