The Israel Air Force today bombed and destroyed Syrian SAM-9 missile batteries which the Syrians had introduced recently into the Beka valley of Lebanon, the army spokesman said. He said that all Israeli planes returned safely from that and other raids on PLO positions in the Bourj Al-Barajneh refugee camp in south Beirut.

The spokesman said that Israel was firmly opposed to the siting of any Syrian missiles in Lebanon and would continue to attack any brought in, as it had done in the past.

The spokesman also stressed that the refugee camp was entirely empty of civilian residents and was now occupied by terrorists who have fired at Israeli positions to the south of the Lebanese capital recently. Remnants of the Syrian brigade are also located at the camp. The headquarters of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, located in the camp were destroyed in the raid, Israel Radio reported.
