The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, speaking for 39 national Jewish religious and secular groups, called on the Administration Thursday to withdraw the proposed sale of arms to Jordan, asserting: “This is the wrong sale, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons.”
Kenneth Bialkin, chairman of the Conference, said the sale”will not serve American interests, or the cause of Middle East peace, or the security of our country’s friend and ally Israel.” He added: “We recognize of course that there is good reason to maintain positive relations between our country and the so-called ‘moderate’ Arab nations. But Jordan is no moderate as long as it rejects direct negotiations with Israel.”
