The Canadian Jewish Congress has urged the Israel government to rescind an order to stamp the identity cards of persons converted to Judaism with the word “convert,” calling the practice “repugnant and un-Jewish.” A cable to that effect was sent last Friday to Premier Shimon Peres, signed by Dorothy Reitman, president of the CJC and Alan Rose, executive vice president. It stated in part, “Canadian Jewry finds this decision wholly repugnant and un-Jewish.”
