The Israel Defense Force issued more administrative detention orders against West Bank Arabs in the last two months than in all of 1986, Haaretz reported Thursday. Three orders issued Wednesday by the IDF central command against three individuals brought the number to 40, compared to 37 last year.

Military sources said the three were suspected of hostile activity on behalf of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a Syrian-backed terrorist group led by Nayef Hawatmeh. Administrative detention allows a suspect to be held for six months without formal charges for trial.
