Soviets Reportedly Sanction First Hebrew Course for Jews

More than 70 Soviet Jews have signed up for the first officially-sanctioned Hebrew courses in the Soviet Union, according to information reaching the Soviet Jewry Information Center in Jerusalem.

The report was hailed by government sources here familiar with Soviet Jewish affairs as an important step for Jewish culture in the Soviet Union. The classes are to be held in the town of Baku, in the Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan.
