About 80 neo-Nazis carrying anti-Jewish banners marched through the West German city of Gottingen on Saturday, shouting, “Foreigners out.”
The marchers, who belong to an extreme right-wing group called the German Freedom Workers Party, were confronted by 500 counter-demonstrators. Heavily reinforced police kept the two groups apart.
The likelihood of clashes has increased since a left-wing activist was murdered Nov. 25 by a Skinhead identified as a neo-Nazi. Both the left and the extreme right have been staging demonstrations ever since.
