Two Israeli students were attacked and lightly injured in an Adriatic seaside town by a group of anti-immigrant thugs who apparently mistook the Israelis for North African immigrants.

The attackers shouted slogans such as “dirty Third-Worlders” during the incident Monday in the town of Ancona, according to news reports.

The thugs also threw bottles, breaking the nose of one of the students, who study at the University of Ancona’s Medical School.

Police arrived on the scene and arrested five of the attackers. Three police officers were injured as they scuffled with the gang.
