A special exhibit featuring 250 works of art, many from royal private collections has opened at the Israel Museum.

The exhibit,”Princely Taste,” is a presentation of rare paintings, silver and gold objects, porcelain tapestries and arms and armor.

Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein is one of the contributors who brought their private collections to the exhibit. Five other private collections – – including those of the Rothschild family and the royal family of Poland – – are being shown to the Israeli public for the first time.

The prince said progress in the Middle East peace process prompted him to bring his collection to Israel.

“For me this is a sign of support for the peace process,” he said at a news conference.

The exhibition, which opened this week and runs until mid-June, took three years to organize.

Israel Museum Director Martin Wail said the project was planned to mark the museum’s 30th anniversary.

“We were looking for a way to celebrate with something that would be different,” he said.
