Vietnam is considering establishing an embassy in Israel as a result of the expansion of economic ties and development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Vietnam is currently represented in Israel through its embassy in Cairo.
Tran Quang Co, Vietnam’s deputy foreign minister, told Uri Savir, Israel’s Foreign Ministry director-general of his country’s intention when the two met last week.
Co was in Israel for an international conference of Foreign Ministry officials.
The two men also agreed that economic ties should be intensified through an exchange of delegations of industrialists.
Co was the most senior Vietnamese official to visit Israel since relations were established between the two countries.
Since early 1992, the two countries have exchanged trade delegations and engaged in other low-level diplomatic activities. In July 1993, Vietnamese and Israeli officials signed a memorandum of understanding to establish diplomatic relations.
