Israel Hosting Tourism Conference

Some 300 tourism agents have convened in Tel Aviv for the start of a three-day “peace tourism” conference aimed at exploring and developing the industry in the region.

Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Tourism Minister Uzi Baram were scheduled to open the event Wednesday at a news conference in Jerusalem.

Among those attending the first day of meetings was the former director general of Jordan’s Tourism Ministry, now a personal tour operator.

He told Israel Radio that he had come for “personal reasons, to educate myself on tourism investment in the region, especially after the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan.
