Israeli security forces this week apprehended a wanted member of the Islamic Jihad movement at the Rafah Crossing separating the Gaza Strip from Egypt.
The man, arrested Sunday as he was trying to flee to Egypt, was reportedly suspected of involvement in the Jan. 22, 1995, Beit Lid and April 9, 1995, Kfar Darom terrorist attacks.
At least 29 people, including American student Alisa Flatow, were killed in the two attacks.
The apprehension came in the wake of the arrest the previous night of two other members of the fundamentalist group by Palestinian police.
The two were arrested in the Shati refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, and are suspected of involvement in a terrorist attack in Gaza.
The two arrests were made shortly after Palestinian police killed two members of the Islamic Jihad in a shootout in the Shati camp.
The two were also wanted by Israel for involvement in the Beit Lid bombing. Last month a member of Islamic Jihad detained by Israel’s domestic security service confessed to planning the Beit Lid attack.
During Sunday’s funeral for the two, followers of Islamic Jihad, which violently opposes the Israeli-Palestinian accords, vowed to kill Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
