Israel has asked Egypt to help locate an Israeli Arab who was seized in Cairo.
The London-based daily Al-Hayat reported that 35-year-old Azam Azam and several Egyptians were arrested last week on suspicion of spying for Israel.
Family members said Azam, a mechanic at an Egyptian-Israeli textile factory, was grabbed by unidentified men outside his Cairo hotel. They denied that he was involved in anything except his job.
Mohammed Basiouny, Egypt’s ambassador to Israel, pledged to get information about Azam.
Foreign Minister David Levy, who is heading Israel’s delegation to this week’s regional economic conference in Cairo, pledged to make every effort to find out about Azam’s fate.
